HOW DO I BOOK?
You have several booking options. The easiest would be on-line through our secure website www.cottagedirectory.com.au (24 x 7). Alternatively you can call one of our Consultants on 03 5348 1255 or 0438 662 201 or our office is located at 8 Park Lane, Daylesford. (COLES carpark entrance off Albert St) we are on the left.
DO I NEED TO PAY A DEPOSIT?
All bookings must be confirmed with a minimum of 50% deposit upon booking. We are unable to take tentative bookings or “hold” properties on a guest’s behalf due to our “On Line” Booking System. The balance of your payment must be received at least 30 days before your arrival date or the booking may be cancelled by Daylesford Cottage Directory (DCD), with no refund of the deposit. Any booking under $500must be paid in full at time of booking, regardless of date of actual booking.
HOW DO I PAY IF I DON’T HAVE A CREDIT CARD?
Payments may be made using Internet banking direct deposit to “Daylesford Cottages”, a money order, a personal cheque or cash. Contact our office for our bank details on email@example.com. Personal cheques will only be accepted if full payment is received as cleared funds at least 14 days before arrival date.
ARE THERE ANY EXTRA CHARGES?
- Once you have paid the tariff for your stay, the only extra charges would be:
- If you book extra night/s
- If you are bringing your pet $20 charge.
- In the event of a call out, we would charge $50 (EG if you lock yourself out of the cottage)
- If you cause damage to the property
WHAT IF OUR FRIENDS JOIN US FOR A NIGHT?
Providing the cottage has enough beds for the extra guests, there is no extra charge because you have paid for the use of the cottage. It would be helpful to let us know up front if other guests are planning on staying so we can prepare the cottage accordingly. Please do not exceed the maximum number of guests allocated to that particular cottage – for health, safety, utilities and insurance risks.
DO YOU ACCEPT A ONE-NIGHT BOOKING?
Yes, some cottages allow you to book for one night. Some allow for one-night bookings from Sunday through to Thursday only and there are a couple of properties that have two night minimums.
IS THERE A MINIMUM STAY ON PUBLIC HOLIDAYS AND LONG WEEKENDS?
Yes, during peak periods we require a minimum 3-night booking.
WHERE DO I PICK UP THE KEYS FROM?
Our office is located at 8 Park Lane, Daylesford (Coles carpark entrance off Albert Street) we are on the left.
WHAT TIME IS THE OFFICE OPEN?
The office is not open every day or full days. So when you want to pick up the keys, we will always arrange an exact time for you to come to the office. Please adhere as close as possible to the time you have given us and always let us know in good time if you can’t make it, plus what time you will be here.
WHAT TIME IS CHECK IN?
Check in is 3pm. However, if there are no guests vacating the cottage the day you arrive, we will do our best to let you in earlier than 4pm, most likely 2pm.
WHAT TIME IS CHECK OUT?
Check out is 12 o’clock midday. Unfortunately this is not negotiable, as we need to clean and prepare the cottage for the next guests and that can take up to 3 hours.
IS THE TARIFF YOU QUOTED FOR JUST 1 NIGHT?
The tariff we quoted includes the total number of night’s stay you requested, inclusive for all guests. It is a total figure. Example: If you want to stay in a cottage for 2 nights and there are 2 couples (IE 4 people) and we quote you $400, this means you pay $400 all up, for 2 nights and 4 people – the whole booking. You may want to split the cost with the other couple so they pay $200 and you pay $200. 4 people over 2 nights would be $50 per night, per person.
DO WE NEED TO BRING OUR OWN LINEN, SHEETS AND TOWELS?
No, we provide all the bed linen (including sheets, pillows, doonas and blankets). We also provide all the towels for the bathroom and tea towels for the kitchen.
IS THERE A KITCHEN?
Yes, all cottages have full kitchens or kitchenettes, oven and microwave and include cutlery, crockery, utensils, pots and pans. You can cook a full meal and store food safely. Some cottages have dishwashers, coffee machines and other cooking gadgets.
WHAT ABOUT TEA AND COFFEE?
Yes, we provide complimentary tea, coffee and sugar. All cottages bar one also provide long life milk.
DO YOU PROVIDE BREAKFAST?
Most of our cottages do provide a complimentary breakfast “starter” for your first morning, which will be a loaf of bread or muffins, butter and conserves; or we offer Continental coffee and biscuits. (2 night minimum booking)
DO YOU PROVIDE SOAP?
Yes, we supply soap for the bathroom and kitchen.
IS THERE A TV?
All cottages have a TV and we offer a mix of entertainment systems providing media, sound, CDs and DVDs depending on the cottage.
IS THERE WIFI?
In most cottages no, there are a handful that do, however, there is an internet cafe located in the main street of Daylesford as well as some of the local cafes and pubs offering wifi.
IS THERE HEATING?
Yes, every cottage has heating – electric or gas. Most of our cottages also have a fire (either an open fire or a Ned Kelly stove).
DO WE HAVE TO BUY THE WOOD?
DCD supplies you with the kindling, firewood, paper, firelighters and matches. We ask that if you use a wood fired heater, please do not attempt to remove the ash. The Carer will do this once you have departed.
IS THERE COOLING?
Some cottages do have a cooling system but many were built years ago and do not worship the sun, so are naturally cooler than modern houses in summer.
DO THE COTTAGES HAVE ELECTRIC BLANKETS?
Almost all cottages have electric blankets.
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Some cottages are pet friendly and some are not. You would need to check with us before bringing your dog and there is an extra $50 bond required up front, when you pay the tariff. This bond will be refunded provided the property is as you found it with no dog damage. If you do bring a dog and have not told us, you and your pet will be removed immediately. If the dog does any damage, we will keep the bond to pay for the damage. If it is more than $50 worth, we will expect you to reimburse the added cost to fix the problem.
IS THERE A LAUNDRY IN THE COTTAGE?
A handful of our cottages have laundry facilities but we find this isn’t a popular pastime – who wants to do laundry on holiday! There is a launderette in the centre of the township – you will need $1 and $2 coins – it’s easy and fast.
IS THERE A MAID SERVICE?
No. We do not come into the cottage daily and do a clean. The cottages are not part of a motel or a hotel complex; they are self-contained accommodation and all have different owners who use the properties as well. We ask you to look after the cottage as if it were your own home and when you vacate, please leave it as tidy and in the same state as when you arrived – thank you.

WHAT IS A CODE RED FIRE DAY?
These are the worst conditions for a grass or bush fire. Homes are not designed or constructed to withstand fires in these conditions. Ratings are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data for up to four days in advance, based on weather and other environmental conditions such as fuel load. The rating is your prompt to take action to stay safe. If you are travelling to Daylesford during summer, we recommend you download the FireReady app to your mobile device and also tune in to AM 774 for updates or keep an eye on the CFA website when a fire of any magnitude is present in the area, if you have already checked in.
